Thumbs Up is a nonprofit raising money for mental health and suicide prevention. We formed in June of 2014 after several people in the Elk River Community has experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. “There was a great need for this event in our community.” Katie Shatusky, founder of the Thumbs Up 5K & 10K said. “Sadly, every member of our committee and board has experienced the devastating loss of a loved one to suicide. We cannot continue to watch our community suffer through these losses alone, we must do more to educate people on the signs of suicide, prevention and also offer resources so that they are able to get the help that they need.” said Shatusky.
Our mission statement is: We value life and we aspire to help others in our community by talking about mental health. “I have made it my personal mission in life to help others who are suffering and to let them know that there is hope and there is help” said Shatusky.
